STOP THE US WAR AGAINST AFGHANISTAN

There was universal condemnation on the atrocious and horrible attack against the World Trade Centre and Pentagon in New York and Washington on September 11, 2001 by the terrorists using the hijacked commercial plane as a convenient weapon in which more than 6,000 innocent lives were lost including those travelled in the hijacked planes. The anger against terrorism was also universal demanding immediate steps to find out the culprits and bring them to justice. The sympathy for those families who lost their bread winners kith and kin was also universal.
The world community wanted to combat international terrorism through the combined effort of all nations and steps should be taken under the United Nations to locate the culprits and get them punished as per the international law without delay.
The people of United States were profoundly shocked since the attack was horrific, so sudden and unexpected, which shattered their confidence that “nobody on earth will dare an attack against the Mighty United States” and commit such a crime. A feeling of insecurity was developed among them and wanted the government to take quick action to find out the enemies and get them punished.
This anger has been skillfully used by the US administration and President George W. Bush to declare “war on global terrorism”. He said US administration have evidence that Osama Bin Laden has master minded this attack and executed by his Al-quida terrorist out-fit and demanded Afghanistan Government to hand-over Osama Bin Laden “dead or alive” immediately or face US attack. Afghanistan’s refusal to comply with the demand of surrendering Osama Bin laden has been used an alibi by US and started the war against Afghanistan on October,7. The American authorities made it clear that the attack against Afghanistan is the first phase and it will be extended to Iraq, the Bekka valley in Southern Lebanon, Iran and Syria “to eliminate terrorism.” The fact remains that Osama Bin Laden and the Taliban are the creation of the United States. The CIA used them in the fight against the pro Soviet Afghanistan Government and finally they could gain control over Afghanistan. Now they are forced to fight against the forces which are of their own creation this is the irony of the situation.

The hidden agenda of the United States in this war is to bring the whole of middle-east areas which are rich in Oil and Gas resources under their control by creating pliant governments which will obey their directives faithfully. This is to ensure their world hegemony as the only super power in the world. The tragedy of New York and Washington is cleverly being used for this purpose.

The three weeks continuous indiscriminate day and night bombing of Kabul and other areas of Afghanistan by the American Air force killing hundreds of innocent citizens children and women is invoking serious concerns all over the world and people’s protest demanding stop the war in Afghanistan is growing fast.

Though the Afghanistan Air Defence system could be smashed and roads and communications facilities were destroyed still the end of war is not in sight. The resistance of Afghanistan forces cannot be easily destroyed without land operation which is not an easy affair, will be a protracted difficult operation may continue for years. Therefore those who supported the American operation in Afghanistan like NATO countries are forced to re think since opposition from their own people are mounting.

In the United States itself anti war demonstration are on the increase in New York a few days back 10,000 –people took part in a stop-war demonstration. In Europe also the situation is not different the people’s protest is on the increase. In Pakistan- a major partner in the war against Afghanistan is rocking with huge protest demonstrations against the war. The Muslim fundamentalist forces are taking the lead in this movement.
In India too antiwar demonstration are spreading through out the country attracting thousands and thousand of people. The stand taken by the Vajpayee Government to placate the United States by offering all facilities for the war operations even without their asking is being ridiculed and being opposed by the people at large. The government is trying to utilize the war situation to curtail the democratic rights of the people claiming to strengthen the fight against terrorism. The government also wants to push through their world bank dictated economic agenda claiming that it is absolutely necessary to sustain our economic growth from crashing.

Therefore it is the duty of the working class to fight for a broad alliance to strengthen the anti war movement together with the fight against the government’s attempt to push through the world bank dictated economic agenda. We must be cautious against the attempt of the communal forces to make it an anti Muslim fight while opposing the Taliban and Osama Bin Laden and his terrorist out-fits. The attempt of the United States to establish the hegemony over the world is to be fought against and defeated.
