SECTOR REPORT FROM ASSAM
The NCCOEE&E, Assam
Branch launched a programme of agitation including 24 hr strike on 9th
June,2004 on the above issues. In the wake of the strike a discussion was held
on 7.6.04 between Principal Secretary to the Govt. of Assam , Power Department
and the representatives of NCCOEE&E. The representative of the ASEB authorities
was also present during the discussion. Following the discussion the proposed
strike on 9th June 2004 was deferred in view of certain assurances
provided by the authorities in course of the discussion. But the assurances are
yet to be materialised.
Under such
circumstances they have urged the Govt. of Assam for :
1. Refrain from embarking upon the move to unbundle and dismantle
the ASEB and undertake functional reforms within the ambit of ASEB.

Take urgent
measures for revitalisation of the existing generational assets of ASEB and to
revive the viable units as has been mentioned above.

Announce concrete
and comprehensive measures in the matter of safeguarding the service interest
of the employees including the past and future liabilities.
