April 2003 - June 2003VOL. 4 NO.2 THE CHANGING SCENARIO IN LATIN AMERICA ARGENTINA In the recent general elections held in Argentina on 27th April 2003 resulted in the victory of Mr. Nestine Crisaner as the president who was not very much known as a political leader in the country. His election platform was against Globalization of the economy and the US hegemonies. His main opponent was Mr. Carlose Menom who was the Argentina President for more than a decade. He was responsible for the implementation of the new economic policy which put the country’s economy in serious difficulties. However he was contesting the election with confidence since his opponent was not very much a known person. However he could muster only 24% of the votes polled in the first round and Mr. Nestine Crisaner 22%. Since he thought that Mr. Nestine will sweep the polls in the second round Mr. Menom withdrew from the contest and thus Mr. Nestine Crisner was elected to the Presidency. It is note worthy that after resuming power as the President Mr. Nestine Crisner celebrated his victory, in which he has invited President Fidel Castro of Cuba, Mr. Hugo Chavese of Vensisula and Mr. Lalu Desilva of Brazil which in the effect was a Latin American summit. This reflected the changing scenario in Latin America.
