NO.3 W B S E B Workmen’s Union Observes Independence Day with Education & oath for National harmony and integrity W B S E B Workmen’s Union planned this year the celebration of Independence Day in a different way. This year, the leaders of the Union thought, after the state Govt. planned genocide & atrocities upon the minorities in Gujarat, celebration of Independence Day through unfurling the tricolor and distribution of sweets is nothing but meaningless foolishness. Preparation for the same was done from 2 months back before 15th August 2002 under the guidance of Com Shyamal Chakraborty, President of the Union. He advised the Union organisers to be acquainted with the information of history, religion, culture and philosophy of India, upon which Peoples Republic of Indian Union has been constituted through ages. Unity in diversity, the basic concept of our country had never been the product of religious fundamentalists like RSS, VHP, Bajrang or Jamayeti Islam or their attempt of distortion of history. Accordingly informative Books were distributed among the selected leaders of the Union. They have undertaken elaborate study on development of mankind and civilisation through ages, background of main religions and culture amongst different ethnic community. As per the guidance appropriate Explanation of religion, culture and human civilisation in the context of Marxist Philosophy to counter RSS-VHP-BJP propaganda through distortion of history was planned. BJP effort for grabbing of educational and research institutes was also planned to be unveiled. History syllabus of all schools under CBSE was changed by the saffronised NCERT defying all protests by the eminent academicians and personalities in the field of education and culture. On 6th of August a day long training class was conducted to educate the leaders / organisers of the Union. A point-wise handout on the subject with relevant quotations from eminent poet Tagore, Nazrul Islam and other authors of humanitarian importance was prepared by the Union for on-session use of the speakers during the meeting planned to be conducted all over the state. The Union invited all sections of the electricity workers and employees irrespective of class, caste and creed to participate in these unique method of celebration of Independence day on 15th of August this year to strengthen the loosen bondage of unity and integrity of Indian people through unwanted incidences along the few years of NDA rule. Altogether 8000 electricity employees gathered in 28 places of the state including district/sub-divisional headquarters and power station townships. Participation of members of other unions and engineers and officers was noteworthy. Deliberation of the speakers could have attracted the attention of all the participants during the duration of the meeting ranging from 2-3 hours. This method of self education and dissemination of knowledge resulted into very good organisational achievement and ultimate object of the Union. The leaders of the Union put the clarion call to all the electricity employees of West Bengal to be vigil against the hatred campaign unleashed by BJP-RSS-VHP and their allies in disguise. No scope is there to be complacent only upon the consciousness of the people of West Bengal. |
