JULY-SEPTEMBER, 2002VOL. 3
NO.3 The power ministry has set up a group on best practices comprising representatives from SEB,CPSU and experts to focus on practices which have benefited the utilities and pass on such experience. A task force has been constituted under the chairmanship of Mr. Nandan Nilokani CEO of Infosys Technologies, to develop synergies between information technologies and power sector. The Group on best practices held its first meeting with senior representatives from NTPC, TNEB and MPEB. The group’s mandate is to study the success stories of various utilities in the country especially in distribution operations. For instance, since the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board managed to meter consumers and tackle transmission and Distribution losses effectively. Information on how TNEB manage to reduce losses could be used by other utilities.
The power ministry advocated standardisation of equipment’s
use in the power sector and directed the central electricity authority to
calculate transmission and distribution losses separately, strategically the
action being taken to differentiate the study in classification of losses above
and below the 33 KV level. The CEA is expected to complete a region-wise study
shortly. The CEA has been asked to stipulate benchmarking operations in the
power sector in association with the Indian Institute of Technologies(IITs). |
