NO.3 A joint Power Working Committee Group comprising Indian and British experts in power , trade and commerce will be formed to promote power sector reforms in the country. A memorandum has been signed in London on Tuesday by Indian power minister Suresh Prabhu and the UK secretary of state for trade and industry. Patricia Hewitt. The MoU will provide for establishment of the group, said an NTPC release on Tuesday. The National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) chief C.P. Jain also stood witness to what was considered to be a new move in India’s power sector reforms. The MoU envisages various measures to facilitate development of the sector and exchange of experts. The concerned ministers of the two countries will be the patrons of the group. Both countries will alternatively host the group’s meeting, which will take place every eyar. In the annual meetings, progress of the activities, as proposed in the MoU will be reviewed and the bottlenecks will be cleared, the release says. The group’s first meeting will be held in India, sometime in January 2003 when Herwitt will visit the country. Road Show: On Monday India had showcased its power sector reforms in London. With a view to eliciting interests from entrepreneurs there, the India Inc. Have exhibited the potentials of the country for investment. It was a ‘Roadshow’ on India for the targeted audience in the financial institutions, investors and other global businesses. In the Road Show, Prabhu referred to the silent revolution of reforms going on in India. The steps taken for setting up an additional 41,000 MW capacity within then Tenth Plan and 1,00,000 MW in the next 10 years were highlighted. Courtesy: Times of India , 28.6.2002 |
