ORISSA GOVERNMENT APPOINTS A REVIEW COMMITTEE ON POWER SECTOR REFORMS

COPY OF THE NOTIFICATION. Bhubaneswar, the 30th May, 2001.

 No. R&R. I.19/2001- 8480 After careful consideration, Govt have been pleased to constitute a Committee of independent experts to review the Power Sector Reforms. The Committee would have the following terms of reference. 

(a)        To examine whether the reforms in the electricity sector have   proceeded on the desired lines.

(b)        If not, what corrective steps need to be taken to ensure that the intended benefits of the reforms process flow to the targeted groups.

(c)                 What can be done to strengthen the key institutions like GRIDCO and the Orissa Electricity Regulatory Commission.

(d)                 What specific steps need to be taken to promote socially relevant objectives like Rural Electrification, Energisation of L.I. Points and providing electricity to the under privileged sections of the community.

(e)                 Any other matter connected or incidental thereto.            

 The committee shall compromise of the followings:

            1.       Shri Soven Kunungo, IAS (Retired) …… Chairman

2.       Shri Anirudh Kumar  Sah.            ……  Member
Retired  Chairman, Uttar Pradesh
State Electricity Board & Former
CMD, NTPC & Member CEA

3.       Shri Sidhartha Sinha,                              ……  Member
Professor, Indian Institute of
Ahemedabad.

4.       Shri S.K. Mohapatra,                               ……  Member
Retired Chairman, OSEB

5.       Principal Secretary to Govt.         ……   Member
Department of Energy

6.       Spl. Secy, to Gvot.,Dept. of Energy  ……    Member-Convenor 

The Committee should submit their report within four months from the date of its first sitting.

 The committee would devise its own producers and how often it should meet.

 All expenses connected with TA &DA of the members would be  borne by GRIDCO.
