VOICE OF ELECTRICITY WORKERS
Status of rural electrification
Out of the total 138.27
million rural households in the country, only 56 per cent are electrified.
There are only six states with more than 75 per cent of rural households
electrified. These are Himachal Pradesh, Goa, Punjab, Haryana, Jammu & Kashmir
and Sikkim. These states, however, account for a meager 6 per cent of the
country’s total rural households. States with about 80 per cent and more
households unelectrified include Bihar, Jharkhand, Assam, Orissa, Uttar Pradesh
and West Bengal, which constitute 43 per cent of the total rural households in
the country.
