Power Sector Reports from Indian
States WEST BENGAL
As per NCCOEEE decision for the 24th Feb'2004 strike except staffs engaged in
emergency work of Generation, Transmission and Distribution wing, all other
employees, workers, officers and Engineers actively took part in All India
General strike. All offices of WBSEB and WBPDCL remained closed. Even INTUC
supporters disobeyed their leadership and participated in the General Strike.
The workers and employees engaged in emergent nature of duties performed their
respective jobs putting Badges in their chest in support of the strike and
issues of the Strike.
HARYANA
In Haryana Electricity Employees participated more than 80% and complaint
centres and office locks could not be opened. The tremendous success to the
strike was due to indifferent attitude adopted by the government of Haryana on
the pending demands of the employees of Haryana power sector.
PUNJAB
The strike in Punjab was near 60% consisting of the following of the TSU, MSU
and AITUC organisations.
U.T. CHANDIGARH
In U.T Chandigarh Strike was total. The cash Counters, the complaint centres
remained locked and were looking like police stations.
KERALA
In Kerala , all the offices and industrial units are closed due to the untimely
death of the Governor of Kerala.
UP
Electricity employees and Engineers made a walk out on 24th February and
demonstrated before the power utilities offices.
In Assam, Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, Orissa, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh,
Karnataka, J&K, Bihar and Tamil Nadu big dharna and demonstrations were held on
24th February'04. In Gujarat black Badges were put by the employees and
demonstrations were held.
