ORISSA- POWER EMPLOYEES AGITATION (REPORT FROM COM. PATRO)
More than 10,000 electrical workers, employees and diploma engineers working
under different offices of GRIDCO and Distribution Company i.e. SOUTHCO all over
southern Orissa congregated before the office of the Managing Director, SOUTHCO,
Berhampur and the divisons at Aska, Phulbani, Parlakhemundi, Bhanjanagar etc. on
16.04.2002 and staged a huge dharna and demonstration against Electricity
Bill-2001, Amendment of Labour Law, Trariff hike, unwanted power cut and for
wage revision. The demonstrators raise slogans on the above demands and urged to
stop the Anti Labour Policies, anti-people reforms of the electricity sector by
the state government and the central government. The leaders who addressed the
gathering are Coms. S.K.M. Patro, Shri Panchanan Jena, Shri Kalu Panda, Shri
Chandra Sekhar Achary, Shri Simanchal Rao, Shri R.N. Acharya, Shri Rama Rao,
Shri K.C. Panda and others. Again in the afternoon, the leaders of CITU,
AITUC, Berhampur, Workers/Employees Co-ordination Committee and Bijuli
Karmachari Sangha went to the office of the Revenue Divisional Commissioner and
submitted the memorandum containing the above said charter of demands.
Simultaneously condemned the anti-working class and the anti people attitude of
the state and central government. The dharna and demonstration was highly
successful. Further it is noticed that the AITUC and INTUC did not observe the
day. PUNJAB The electricity workers of Punjab enthusiastically joined
16th April general strike together with other sections of employees. The strike
was more or less total in the power sector. |
