Voice of Electricity Workers Letter from NATIONAL CO-ORDINATION COMMITTEE OF ELECTRICITY EMPLOYEES & ENGINEERS NEW DELHI – 110 001 NCCOEEE/06/2001 Date: 1.3.20001 The Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, The Hon’ble Minister of Energy (Govt. of India), The Hon’ble Chief Ministers, Sub: Chief Minister’s Conference on the Power Sector to be held on 3rd March, 2001 at New Delhi: On behalf of the engineers and employees of the State Electricity Boards and Power sector utilities, would like to place before you our views on the Power Sector reforms and the note dated 10-1-2001 circulated by Shri Suresh Prabhu, Hon’ble Minister of Energy on the same. We are enclosing herewith our note on the current reforms being pursued in the Power Sector. We would like to bring to your attention that the current reforms has led to steep increases in the cost of electricity and has failed in its objectives. The recent crisis in California and the failure of the reforms in Orissa need to be taken note of before we embark on similar policies in other states.
