Power Sector News- Tamil Nadu


 

In connection with the 12th Conference of Central Organization of Tamil Nadu Electricity employees, held on 2006 January 7,8,9 at Salem, three propaganda Jadhas in three corner of Tamil Nadu, one from Chennai and the other two from Kanya kumari and Ramnad were organised. The three propaganda Jadhas had propagated regarding the anti people and the anti workers policies of the Central and State Governments and necessary amendments needed in lieu of that in the Electricity Act 2003, necessitating Electricity Sector should continue as a public sector. And also demanding to rectify the defects and demerits of the wage revisions settlement recently entered in the Tamil Nadu to regularize the contract workers against the 20,000 existing helper vacancies. The issues highlighted in the propaganda Jadhas were welcomed by the employees and public.

Before the commencement of the conference
The conference was inaugurated by the Vice President of CITU and President of EEFI Com. Balanandan, in his inaugural address these are all the points highlighted by him, the American imperialistic attack on Iraq, the impact of the implementation of LPG in India, the necessity of proper amendments in the Electricity Act 2003, and the importance of Electricity Sector should continue as a public sector.
415 delegates have participated in the conference out of those delegates 23 were women delegates. 67 delegates were participated in the discussion on the General Secretary’s report.

Besides these conference, a seminar was conducted on the following subjects under the president ship of Com. A.K. Padmanabhan.

- Court Judgement on Labour laws
- The impact in the implementation of Globalisation on the Agricultural Sector
- Reservation and social justice
- Consumer and the Electricity worker

The eminent persons Com. A. Soundarajan, Com. K. Balakrishnan, Com. U.Vasuki and Com. S. Pancharatnam had addressed in the seminar. A huge gathering were participated in the seminar. In the seminar yearly subscription for Theekhadir from 141 persons were handed over by com. S. Pancharatnam to Com. A. Soundarajan as a first instant and the conference had planned to collect yearly subscription from 1000 members in the future course.
In the conference Com. S. Pancharatnam had been elected as president Com. S.S. Subramanian, as General Secretary, Com. K. Vijayan as Treasurer, Com. A.K.Padmanabhan as Vice President, P. Kannan, V. Rajasekharan and D. Govindaraju as deputy General Secretaries and 27 other persons were elected as office bearers.
In the conference the following important decision were taken:
10 days campaign from 2006 January 20-30 on the subjects of necessary amendment in the electricity Act 2003 – defects in the wage revision settlement- arrived recently, filling of vacancies.
In the month of February district level Convention to be held to impress the central Government to make necessary arrangements in the Electricity Act 2003.
In the conference it had been decided to make a compulsion to the Government of India to make suitable amendments with Electricity Act 2003.

After the immediate announce of Ex-gratia payment to the contract Labour, the affected area’s contract labour will have a powerful demonstration and the wind mill contract labour if not included in the announcement by the Board they will have a hunger fast in front of the superintending Engineer’s Office at Tirunelveli.

The Conference came to a conclusion with Mammoth Rally participating more than 10,000 employees at the end of the rally a public meeting has been addressed by COTEE and CITU leaders.
