VOICE OF ELECTRICITY WORKERS
POLITICAL NOTE:
The recent Assembly elections held in Delhi, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and
Chattisgarh resulted in BJP gaining upper hand. It is claimed by the BJP leaders
that their policy has been put to test and the people have responded positively.
While we go for a close look on these elections we will find that the BJP were
able to use their hindutva card plus the ideological and organisational
penetration of RSS among the backward tribal population of Madhya Pradesh,
Chattisgarh and Rajasthan which paid them dividends. The money power used by
them is unparalleled in the election history. Tonnes of money has been spent
like water to woo the backward sections of voters.
Together with this the incumbency factor went against the congress since their
performance was of the worst kind. On all the people's issues they were bungling
and were competing in implementing the globalization agenda. The working class
generally were under severe attacks. The state government employees had to face
large scale job losses together with the existing privileges were under attack.
Their power policy was nothing but privatisation. The power rate hikes and power
shortages haunted the states especially Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan which
antagonized large sections of the people against the government. The peasantry
too were not fairly treated in all the three states.
Besides they have failed to uphold the secular politics of the country instead
were compromising secularism with the so called "Mridu Hindutva" which
antagonised the minorities in a big way. All these resulted in their defeat in
the three states Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chattisgarh.
The BJP and Congress are following the same policies with minor differences
keeping the people's life miserable. Therefore it is the duty of the left and
democratic sections of the country together with the working class should join
the fight for alternative policies while upholding democratic rights of the
people and the secular polity of the country.
