Regional conventions of power sector employees

 

KARNATAKA

 2NDDecember 2003 was a red alert day in the history of Karnataka’s power sector.  The solidarity shown by all employees including officers by participating in the ‘Black Day’ to register ourprotest against Electricity Act –2003 and the Judgement on Hon’ble Supreme Court on strike by employees, indicates unity among the employees.  The rally at Kaveri Bhavan in the evening was unforgettable and showed a symbol of strength and unity.  The electricity employees of Karnataka state did a commendable job in making the protest day a total success in the entire state. The print media and electronic media gave a wide and good coverage of the “Black Day’ event.

 WEST BENGAL STATE POWER SECTOR

 West Bengal Chapter of NCCOEEE observed Black DAY Demanding scrapping of Electricity Act 2003. In
Kolkata the Central Programme took place before the DVC Tower with participation of more than 2000
workers, employees and engineers at 5 PM. Leaders of  all the constituent organisations submitted their
brief deliberation before the mass mobilisation. All  of them mentioned that the newly enacted bill will not only place the poor and middle class consumers of  electricity in trouble but the entire development
process of our country will be at stake. The new act will deliver any good to only big business houses and
traders along with 5-7% of rich consumers. All of them mentioned that this country made this much of prospect in socio-economic arena just due to the foresightedness of our planners from the initial stage
of development planning keeping Generation, Transmission and Distribution of electricity in the
Nationalised / State sector. SEBs contributed a lot for the development of the country but pioneers of
this act are abusing the SEBs and its employees for all curses. At the end of the programme the copy of
the Electricity Act was set ablazed at 6 PM with sky-piercing slogans of thousands of workers,
employees and engineers together. 95% of Electricity Workers, officers & Engineers put on Chest Badges all over the day demanding scrapping the Electricity Act 2003.


Besides the Central programme mass demonstration took place jointly at all the, power stations, Zonal,
district and sub-divisional headquarters all over the state. At the evening between 5 & 6 PM the joint meeting took place and copy of the Electricity Act set ablazed. A good number of media men covered the programmes.

 CESC, KOLKATA

 Calcutta Electric Supply Workmens Union Observed the day by wearing Black Badges and organising meeting through out the Industry.

 ORISSA

 Demonstration in front of Revenue Divisional Commissioners Office (R.D.C) has been staged  on 2nd December 2003 demanding legislation to negate the effects of the recent Supreme Court Judgement taking away the right to strike.  About 100 Comrades from Bank, Insurance, FMRAI and State Government Employees including Seventy Electricity employees have participated  in the program organized under the Banner of Berhampur Workers & Employees Co-ordination committee.  Among other comrades Sri Kalu Panda, CITU leader adn comrade Sri Panchanan Jena, Vice President of Bijuli Karmachari Sangha addressed the gate meeting .

 A memorandum addressed to the Prime Minister of India was handed over to the Revenue Divisional Commissioner demanding legislation to negate the uncalled for Supreme Court Judgement.
