JANUARY- MARCH 2002                           VOICE OF ELECTRICITY WORKERS

THE BHARATIYA JANATA PARTY IS ROUTED IN THE STATE ASSEMBLY ELECTIONS.

The BJP with the clout of the central government led by them and the chief minister ship of Uttar Pradesh, the communal card which has been used by raising the issue of temple construction in Ayodhya they were confident of victory in the assembly elections. Contrary to these calculations the worst ever defeat embraced BJP. The BJP which had 158 seats in 1996 elections could get only 88 this time and that too with the help of allies. Their position has been reduced to mere third while the first and second stature has gone to Samajwadi Party and BSP respectively. Samajwadi party is claiming that they may be invited for forming the government since they are the single largest party having 143 seats in the house of 403.
In Uttaranchal where BJP was the ruling party could get only 19 seats in the assembly. The Congress mustered majority by winning 36 seats and become the ruling party of the state. Punjab where Akali BJP combination was in power, the congress party could muster majority by winning 62 seats. The combination could get only 45 seats and the congress party formed the government in the state. The position of Manipur too the same. BJP has been routed and a combination led by Congress party is going to take the government control in the state.
Thus the people of these four states where elections were held defeated the BJP squarely. The cause for disillusionment of the people was the anti-people policies pursued by the NDA Govt. at the centre led by Mr. Vajpayee and the policies of their state administration.
Inspite of the promise made that contentious issues will not be in the NDA Government's programme. But flouting these the central government started implementing their hidden agenda of communalizing Indian society in various ways and allowed RSS-Vishwa Hindu Parishad to carry forward their programme of temple construction ignoring the law of the land which is now seriously straining the unity of the country by developing communal divide.
The implementation of the World Bank, IMF and WTO dictated policies in toto heaping indescribable miseries on the people besides country's economy is being driven to serious downturn, increasing foreign domination.
When the people got a chance they resolutely registered their opposition to these policies by squarely defeating the BJP at the poles. This is the beginning of the end of BJP government at the centre.
